Mini Lifestyle Newborn Session in Jupiter

It’s always great to photograph repeat clients especially when we first meet at one of our Fall mini session events! I captured this family of all boys back in November at one of my favorite spots in Jupiter!

During that session, the Mama was expecting and happily exclaimed that yes she would be having another precious little guy! When the Mama reached out a few months later inquiring about our “petite newborn session,” I was excited to get to see and photograph them all again! The newborn session went very well, the littlest “big brother” was a ham and stole the show on some of the photos. I loved the light that flooded into the room and the bright white blankets. These moments captured were such sweet memories for this family. Scross down to check out some of my favorites from their newborn session below:

What is the petite newborn session? It’s basically my take on a mini newborn session! It includes 60-90 minutes of time, no props or accessories. It is a completely natural lifestyle newborn session. It aims to capture the entire family together, a few with the siblings, baby w/parent(s) and then the baby alone (either in the parents arms, or on a bed/couch/crib/etc.). After many years of shooting newborns, I decided to add it as a session option for those who wanted a quicker and more affordable session and it has been a wonderful addition to our offerings.

Jupiter Lifestyle Newborn Session Featuring Twins

I captured this lifestyle newborn session featuring twins (and their two older siblings) on a sunny morning in May. When their parents (who happen to be friends from our church) reached out about scheduling a newborn photo shoot, I knew it would be a fun and lively session with four little ones three years old and under <3

I arrived at their session and it was probably one of the most peaceful settings considering the fact that four little ones resided there. The twins were fast asleep so we swaddled them up with my soft cloth wraps and jumped right into it. The parents wanted that natural lifestyle look that I adore and aim to capture at all of my newborn photo sessions. The older two were as sweet as could be and did very well with cooperating for all of the photos :-) It was super smooth and we were able to get all of these shoots in about 2 hours. We ended our session with the twins swaddled together in a basket <3 Check out a glimpse into the photo shoot below:

Jupiter Lifestyle Newborn Session

I’m pretty behind on sharing work here so I’m planning to get caught up with the photography blogsite this summer! Stay tuned for many more lifestyle newborn & family sessions from some of our favorite 2019 sessions <3

Last May, I met and captured this sweet new family for the first time. They opted for a completely indoor lifestyle newborn session to capture the essence of their beautiful newborn girl in their home. The mother attempted to photograph the baby herself (prior to our session) but ended up deciding to hire a professional so that she and her husband could also be in the images.

This session was so perfectly quaint and calm! We captured the majority of our photos in the nursery. I adored the natural colors and tones which consisted of white, cream/tan, and lots of greenery. We used all of the pretty blankets, sheets, headbands and all of the pretty items around the room to highlight the baby in the images. We captured the emotion and love that goes along with having a newborn, filled with lots of snuggles, kisses, hugs, and admiration of this tiny little person. We also aimed to capture some of the details of the decor. The couple was so natural and the baby incredibly calm and sleepy. She woke up at the end so we were able to capture those bright eyed images as well. Check out the session below.

Palm Beach Gardens Lifestyle Newborn Session

I captured this petite lifestyle newborn session a few months back and have been meaning to share a glimpse of it here.

Last Fall, I met this sweet family when we captured their maternity/family photos during our first mini session event of the season. Click the link below to check it out and scroll down to find (they’re the third family from the top):

Its always great to capture the same family for multiple photo shoot needs (i.e. maternity, newborn, family, birthday parties, etc.) because we have the opportunity to get to know each other better with each session and we become more familiar with one another. It’s easier for families (especially the kids) to be themselves in front of the camera to someone who isn’t a stranger anymore ;-) I personally love being able to document families as they grow and change and it is such a joy to be in their lives, the kids recognize me and look forward to the fun they’ll have during the session and don’t want me to leave.

We captured most of the session indoors, then we headed outside for a few shots and were greeted by a beautiful rainbow (scroll all the way down to see the images). It was the second photo session I captured this year featuring a rainbow. I haven’t had this happen in many years, let alone two back to back within a few weeks time.

Whenever I see a rainbow I am reminded of God’s many promises.

Why Newborn Sessions Take So Long

On my previous two blog posts I described how the petite newborn session is a great option for capturing your newborn session completely at home or all outdoors; however, today I am going to explain why the full session happens to be my favorite option!

First of all, the full newborn session includes 3 hours of time (versus 90-minutes) and while this may seem like a tremendous amount of time to be taking photographs … I guarantee you, it isn’t! Many potential new clients might scratch their heads and wonder why soooo much time is needed for a newborn session.

*Here are a few reasons why a newborn session takes time & why a full three hour session is a great option:

  • Babies are unpredictable, you don’t know if they will be content or fussy

  • They will require several feeding breaks, which also includes time for burping

  • They will require one or more diaper changes, most likely even a diaper blowout

  • There will be clothing changes (whether by choice or if he or she happens to spit up on their clothing or even on you or your husband resulting in your clothing change)

  • Even if you opt for no clothing or just a diaper … time is needed for swaddling and re-swaddling

  • Now that you’ve fed and changed the baby multiple times guess what … we still need more time to settle them and get them to sleep for those adorable sleepy shots everyone loves … this is usually the easy part but some babies out there decide that they do not want to sleep for the first 2 hours of the session

  • Factor in extra time if you are wanting to use props and get them to sleep in cute accessories

  • If you have other children (especially toddlers), add-on more time because the odds are they might not cooperate like you thought, especially if they somehow missed a nap that day

  • If you’d like more than one look, as in …. not just in the nursery or not just at the park, but maybe you want to capture images indoors and outdoors as well, it will take a bit of time to pack up and maybe even drive to a different location

Check out this newborn session below. It was an amazing three hour lifestyle newborn session. We captured a variety of images in the nursery and Mom & Dad’s room, then jumped into our cars and headed to the beach which was only 10-minutes away. We were able to capture the family, the baby alone, the siblings, Mom with the baby, Dad with the baby and then do many of those same shots at the beach.

Indoor Newborn Photography and a Little Bit of Grain

Many clients who inquire about newborn photography sessions often wonder and ask ...

Which session option will work best for me? (the full three hour session or a shorter 90-minute option)?!

I will explain the shorter time frame option here today. I created the shorter time frame for people who want a more simplistic approach to the lifestyle only option.  What does this mean? This means that you are getting 90-minutes of time, one general location & no newborn props! So the style is very natural, enduring and not "posed" or artificial. Photographing in the home & especially in the nursery only is perfect for this shorter session.  Some clients opt to do their entire time frame outdoors as well but the same rules apply (I will post about that next).

Below you will see a lifestyle newborn session who opted for the 90-minute option. They decided to capture the entire session in their baby girl's nursery which was beautiful. It worked out wonderfully! We were able to capture a nice variety or family shots, mama & baby, dada & baby, and lastly baby alone. All of the items in their room become natural props (i.e. the crib, rocking chair, changing table & guest bed). It is perfect for documenting those first few days as a new family but also for documenting all of the details inside the nursery.

One thing about photographing completely indoors, using only window light ... is the fact that there may be some "grain" in the images. Since I am a natural light shooter the window light is sometimes not enough so I have to increase my camera's ISO to achieve that bright & colorful look that I so very much love. This added grain does not in anyway reduce the quality of these images, but rather it increases their character.
